Coffee in Shaw
Fossette is a counter service coffee shop and focacceria in Shaw, open every day from 10am to 4pm. We pull espresso with beans from Colectivo Coffee Roasters and serve it beside focaccia baked that morning. Order a cortado on the way to the convention center, take a cappuccino and a pastry to a table out front, or pick up a cold brew after lunch. In the morning this is a neighborhood coffee shop first, which is how most of our regulars use it.
Our espresso and coffee
The espresso menu is short and classic: espresso, macchiato, cortado, flat white, cappuccino, latte, and americano. Lattes, americanos, and cold brew come in 12 and 16 ounce, and any of the milk drinks can be made with almond milk or oat milk. The mocha is there when you want something sweeter, and the cold brew travels well if you are walking back to an office.
If coffee is not what you are after, we also make matcha lattes, masala chai, hot chocolate, and hot tea. Everything is made to order at the counter, so the line moves. Pastries and Italian baked goods come out of the case through the day, so there is usually something to go with it. The Sicilian Iced Latte
The drink people come back for is the Sicilian Iced Latte, made with homemade pistachio syrup, crushed pistachios, and a salted mascarpone cold foam. It comes in 12 and 16 ounce. Guests name it in their reviews more than anything else we pour, usually alongside the focaccia. Almond and oat milk work on everything else, but this one is made with mascarpone, so it cannot be made dairy free.
Finding us in Shaw
We are at 1250 9th Street NW, Unit 1, in the same building as All Purpose Pizzeria, about a five minute walk from the Mt Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center Metro on the Green and Yellow lines. The cafe is small, with some indoor and outdoor seating, and plenty of guests take their coffee to go. You can order ahead for pickup if you are short on time.
